History of the Site

When most people think of Tarpon fishing they think of places like Islamorada or the Keys. But going deep up a dense jungle river system into the backwater of Nicaragua would for most people seem like the last place on earth to find these large monsters. 

We found them! If your into exploring off the beaten path adventures and fighting some of the world’s wildest Tarpon, then this is a must do fishing expedition in search of jungle monsters! This is a hard to reach place very few people ever get to see or even hear about yet alone experience in their life. This jungle is a very mysterious place! It’s full of life from the tree tops to the river bottoms, life fills every inch here.

Our Journey begins in beautiful Costa Rica! Or Nicaragua! Throughout Lake Nicaragua, which is a freshwater lake, it is filled with an amazing array of fish that aren’t typically associated with freshwater. We’re talking large sawfish, tarpon and even the Lake Nicaragua Shark, which as science eventually discovered, is actually the bull shark.

This is pirate country! Land that at one time use to be laden with pirates in the 1600s. The pirates were constantly attacking the city of Granada. As a result, the different municipalities set up fortifications in order to protect them against pirate attacks. At El Castillo, which is one of the municipalities that lie along the river one of these old fortresses still exists and today is being considered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Inside of El Castillo is the Fortress of the Immaculate Conception. This runs along the south bank of the San Juan River and is just a few miles from the border of Costa Rica but only accessible by boat as there are no roads or cars this far back. The first pirate attack on the city of Granada was by a pirate in 1670 named Gallardino. From 1673 to 1675, they built the fortress. However, it wasn’t enough to keep out William Dampier, a buccaneer who came in, plundered Granada and set it on fire in 1685.

Monster tarpon live here in the rivers, also large Snook and Rainbow Bass as well.
This Jungle Fishing Tour is filled with history, mystery, wild life and large monster size tarpon. The same waters that Spanish conquistadors explored are the very same waters that we will go down. Armed with fishing poles and bait, we will get our own loot and plunder the waters for the big fish that we have come in search of.

Caribbean jungles are no match for this boat and the fish don’t stand a chance. There may not be pirates in the water anymore but there are plenty of remnants of the history and plenty of action on the waters to make this a very exciting trip.
